Now you really can discover everything about the wine production of the Hospices de Beaune.
A discovery visit of the institution has recently been introduced, for lovers of wine and history, which can be done in one day and which is focussed on the wine producing activities.
Becoming imbued with the spirit of the institution and learning about the particular care we take in producing our wine is still the best way the appreciate the quality of our products...
Description of the visit
The programme can be adapted on request, and of course includes a break for lunch following the choice of the visitors, a prestigious hall - the Chamber of the King - can accommodate you for the organisation of your meal. Lastly, each of these three visits can be offered separately.
- Discovery visit of the new fermenting cellar of the Hospices
Opened in 1994, these are modern facilities at the service of traditional wine-making methods.
- Special visit of the Hôtel-Dieu
This visit is accompanied by a guide-lecturer, allowing you not only to cover the usual visitors' circuit and admire its treasures, in particular the Polyptych of The Last Judgement by Rogier van der Weyden, but also to penetrate into the areas which are closed to the general public, such as the Chamber of the King, the former Sisters' refectory, the former office of the Mother Superior, etc...
This visit ends with a break in the Conference centre of the Hôtel-Dieu, situated on the first floor, with the possibility of watching a short film on the wine auction
- Visit and wine tasting in the former wine-making storehouse
This is the last leg of the day's visit. As well as the former wine-making storehouse, the visitors will discover the cellars of the Hôtel-Dieu which remain one of the most favoured places for tasting each new harvest on the eve of the auction. The tasting of five of the Hospices wines is accompanied by a commentary from one of the vineyard managers.
- Visit of the new fermenting cellar or the former wine-making storehouse, accompanied by tasting of 1 to 5 wines produced on the estate (maximum 50 people)

The 146th Hospices de Beaune wine auction 2006 took place on sunday 19th November
For this occasion, the charity barrel has been sold on behalf of 2 associations "Enfants et Santé"
and "Princesse Margarita de Roumanie". The sale has reached the historic record of 200 000 €uros.
The next Hospices de Beaune wine Auction will be on Sunday 18th November 2007.
