The multicoloured roofs of the Hôtel-Dieu have become one of the symbols of Burgundy.
But who would suspect this architectural jewel of holding some 5,000 items, among which the most famous is the polyptych of The Last Judgement (Rogier van der Weyden) ?
From the date of its foundation, Nicolas Rolin had planned to supply the institution with furniture, tapestries and other items, of which a detailed inventory dating from 1501 gives us a precise idea.
These objects have three origins: the foundation itself, the necessities for running a hospital and the donations and legacies of benefactors or former patients.
The General Inventory of Burgundy has carried out an exhaustive survey and brought to light some 2,500 pieces of furniture (beds, chests, etc.) and 2,500 other items (tapestries, paintings, sculptures, pharmacy jars, etc.)..
The furniture, paintings and tapestries are the object of a programme of restoration.
